Banning AI will not make it go away

A 16 year old lifeguard in Santa Cruz rescued a boy from drowning in large breaking waves close to the beach. The same swell, affecting San Diego County has resulted in hundreds of rescues. They say that every year a few people go for a swim at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. By the time they look back land is a lot farther than they expected. They panic and start swimming against the rip current. Not even Michael Phelps would stand a chance.

Yet, many watermen and women use the same currents to make paddling out a breeze.

The barrier to entry for an industrialist was an expensive machine. The barrier to entry for a white collar office worker to benefit from personal computers was an expensive, but affordable machine. The barrier to entry for an entrepreneur to benefit from the internet was an affordable internet connection. Each revolution has been a messy affair, economically, politically, and socially - huge progress and massive destruction. The barrier to entry for a creative person to benefit from AI is nothing.

I have never seen a technology be adopted so quickly by every generation and culture. Whenever I find a use for AI, it so drastically cuts the time to accomplish tasks that I’m left wanting to do more with my (finally copious) free time!

Swimming against the rip will leave you exhausted and helpless. If you are though, then I hope you have a large life preserver.
