If Cloudflare had no physical machines, employees, and property within Italy's borders, under what law could Italy levy a fine?

The EU companies make payments to Cloudflare, and these could be confiscated. Also any staff in Italy is in danger.

It's impressive how much internet censorship in Europe is currently being caused by this one group of extremely greedy people. It's one of the rare cases where the sheer size and international influence of companies like Google and Cloudflare can actually do some good for the world by fighting back against such laws.

Just cut Italy off from the global internet and let them run whatever isolated misguided fascist trash network they want by themselves. If the Italians aren't happy with it they can revoke their idiot laws on their own. Problem solved and the world is better for it either way.

If we wouldn’t do that for Russia, which I suggested years ago and was massively dragged for it on HN, then why would we do it for Italy? I don’t agree with poisoning DNS, but there are way worse things happening on the internet that we don’t disconnect whole nations for.

Then do it for Russia too. I also don't care if I get "dragged" for suggesting it. Capitulating to poor leadership is enabling poor leadership and the world is in a bad state because of it.

Literally the only reason it doesn't happen is because there's too much money to be made for people who are not you and me.

Serious question: how is DoH supposed to help when the resolver itself is being asked to return bad results? DoH makes sense if something is MITM-ing your DNS requests, but it sounds in this case that Google is being asked to just straight-up return bad results?
